The District of Columbia Fire Department has 7 Battlions,33 Engine Companies, 16 Truck Companies, 3 Heavy Rescue Companies 1 Haz-Mat Unit 1 Fire Boat. and several units and EMS units

The Department covers 69 sq miles with a population of 550, 000 peole who live in the city and with a day time population over 1 million people who work or visit the city each day.

The city is divided into 4 section Northwest, Northeast, Southeast & Southwest

The NORTHWEST section of the city has 3 Battlions with 17 engine companies, 9 Truck Companies. 2 Rescue Company,

The Northeast section of the city has 2 Battalions with 7 Engine Companies and 3 Truck Companies

The Southeast section of the city has 2 Battalions with 7 Engine Companies , 3 Truck Companies and 1 Rescue Company.

The Southwest section of the city is the smallest of the four with 2 Engine Companies a Truck Company and a Fire Boat.
